Don't Forget the Marriage License

Unless you are a bride who does her homework well in advance, you may not be aware of the requirements of obtaining a marriage license. There are a number of very important when, what and wheres. Here are some of the most important snippets:
  • Apply for your marriage license no earlier than 60 days before your wedding date. The application is only good for 60 days from the date you receive it.
  • The Bride and Groom must appear in person to apply for a marriage license.
  • As long as you are 21 years of age you will need two of the following proofs of identification:
    • A current driver's license (make sure it is not expired!)
    • Current Passport (make sure this is not expired either!)
    • Military ID
    • Certified copy of birth certificate
    • State-issued ID card
  • The cost is $60 for a marriage license and you MUST bring CASH. That means, no checks or debit cards. Bring along that green paper stuff.
  • They only issue licenses between the hours of 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, Monday - Friday, excluding holidays.
So that's some of the most important details that I wanted to bring to your attention. But there's more where that came from. For special circumstances, such as being 15 years of age or younger and/or if this is not your first marriage, you might want to visit the Wake County Register of Deeds website and read further. You can read the detailshere: Wake County Register of Deeds

So read up and follow the instructions so there are no glitches on your wedding day.

Happy Planning!
